sanctions signal US defeat

Monday, October 29, 2007

Senior Iranian Majlis Deputy Foreign Minister Alaeddin Boroujerdi has said toughening of sanctions against Iran is an indication of US policies' defeat.

Chairman of Iran's Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said Washington was violating the international regulations by taking measures aimed at forcing new sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Referring to the US efforts to develop advanced nuclear weaponry, Boroujerdi called on the international community to take a stand against the violation of NPT safeguards agreement by the White House.

Boroujerdi described the presence of the US troops in Iraq as the root cause of instability and insecurity in the region adding that specification of a timetable for withdrawal of their military forces would help reduce tension in the region.

The Iranian Parliamentarian noted the weekly four billion dollar cost of the Iraqi war for Washington and described the US as the real loser in the Iraqi crisis.

Boroujerdi voiced his support for Iran-IAEA talks on the nuclear issue and expressed hope that Iran's nuclear standoff with the West would be resolved through negotiations.
