UNESCO to Register Iran's Old Cypress

Iran is registering the country's oldest tree, Abarkooh city's 4,500 year-old cypress, as a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
This cypress tree is regarded as the oldest living tree in Iran. The tree, which is 11.5 meters in diameter and 33 meters in height, was registered as a National Heritage in 1933.
The cypress tree plays a significant role in Persian culture and it has been used in the design of famous Persian Gardens.
