Iranian cultural officials say some 1500 Persian rituals and ceremonies have been selected for national and international registration.

According to Seyyed Taha Hashemi, head of the ICHTO Research Center, following the ethnographical study of 260 historic towns and villages, 1500 Persian rituals and ceremonies were selected for registration in UNESCO.

"The complete list will be handed over to UNESCO after the Japan summit decides on the regulations for the registration of 'spiritual heritage,' " said Hashemi.

Nou Ruz (the Persian New Year) and Ta'aziyeh (Iranian passion plays) are the two top priorities for registration.
