The Fourth Largest Producer of Lead and Zinc

Wednesday, November 28, 2007

The International Lead and Zinc Study Group (ILZSG) says Iran is the fourth largest producer of these metals that play a key role in world industry.

Given its rich lead and zinc reserves, the country has good potential for further expanding the sectors. Iran can gain a good market share of zinc ingot in the world and even produce sheets of the two metals based on the latest technologies.

The country's zinc production has increased five-fold since 1991.

The electronic and automobile industries account for 80 percent of the demand for zinc and lead.

Zinc and lead have recently been upgraded from Group II metals to Group I.
