Women Planting Rice Fields in Gilan, Iran

In Gilan, northern Iran, the month of April is the month for transplanting rice. There is a lot of labor involved from planting to harvesting rice. The transplanting is mostly done by women and girls who work in the fields about 11 hours a day. For some of these workers, it takes hours more to commute from distant towns and villages to the rice fields. These women workers, while producing rice at a high cost of suffering, they also produce a lot more happiness since they enliven themselves and others with the feeling of being useful and honorable. And they spread this feeling on the rice field, and it is thus that this rice won't be bitter.
