Friday, August 7, 2015

Deputy head of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari’s Cultural Heritage said the province has received 7 UNESCO seals of excellence during the past two years.

Mehrdad Raeisi, deputy head of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari’s Cultural Heritage and Handicrafts, said the province has received seven UNESCO seals of excellence for various handicraft products including hand-woven kilims (flat tapestry-woven carpets), felt, locks, metallic and other products.

“Receiving UNESCO seal of excellence for handicrafts plays an important role in facilitating our access to the international markets to sell such products. This in turn, leads to the increase of handicraft production in the province and creating various job opportunities,” said Raeisi.

He added that Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province is one of the leading provinces in handicraft production and has exported a great number of its products to various parts of the country as well as a number of foreign countries.

The program of UNESCO Seal of Excellence for the craft products was originally piloted in 2000-2003 for Southeast Asia by UNESCO and the ASEAN Handicraft Promotion and Development Association (AHPADA).

This program has succeeded not only in raising the standards of quality of handicraft products but has also enhanced international market awareness of products coming from all the countries in the region. Iran has been participating in this program since 2007.

Different kinds of handicrafts and souvenirs of Chahar Mahal Va Bakhtiyari province are as follows: the famous Chalshotori carpet, tribal carpets and rugs, Chukha, felt, Giveh or a type of local foot ware, Khorjeen or Saddlebags, Jajeem (a loosely woven woolen cloths), Kilim (a coarse carpet), satchels, table cloths and salt cellars, Khor, Jol, Palas, Kachmehdan and Gazz..

Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province is one of the 31 provinces of Iran. It lies in the southwestern part of the country. Its capital is Shahrekord.

Many tourists and explorers are of the opinion that Chahar Mahal-o-Bakhtiari is the bezel of Zagros region and even Iran. This province is located at high altitude of the Iranian plateau, on the north and east borders of Isfahan province, on the west and south of Khuzestan and Kohgillooye va Boyer Ahmad provinces and on the northwest of Lorestan province. Shahr-e-Kord, the center of the province, is one of the highest cities of Iran.

It enjoys numerous types of weathers. Some parts of the province are humid and cool with very cold winters, whereas in other parts one can experience semi-humid climate with less cold or moderate winters. This variety of climate has created novel landscapes and marvelous sceneries.
