Securing the release of the remaining consulate employees

Tehran urges Washington to immediately release 11 Iranians still in US custody, after its forces in Iraq freed 9 others on Friday.

"Securing the release of the remaining consulate employees and other Iranians through the efforts of Iraqi officials and the international community is on Tehran's agenda," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini.

Hosseini added that Tehran has repeatedly rejected the US accusations against the Iranian diplomats as baseless, urging Washington 'to honor the principles of consulate and human rights conventions'.

Two of the nine Iranians released on Friday were among those abducted by US forces from the Iranian consulate in Arbil on January 11.
