Qobadi Wins Berlinale Award

Active ImageIranian filmmaker Batin Qobadi's Ask the Wind has won the Crystal Bear award of the 60th Berlin International Film Festival.

The 13-minute film received the Crystal Bear for the Best Short Film of the festival's Generation 14plus section.

The jury praised Qobadi's work for leaving the audience “speechless, with few words” and opening a “door on a culture, in which the unimaginable belongs to daily life.”

Ask the Wind is about a group of female art students who go to a village to take photographs, but things become complicated when one of them finds a dead body.

The 2010 Crystal Bear for the Best Film of the Generation 14plus section went to Neukolln Unlimited by Agostino Imondi und Dietmar Ratsch from Germany.

Iranian filmmaker Batin Qobadi has made six short films, the first of which premiered in 1996 with the title Painting.

The 2010 Berlin International Film Festival also screened Iranian filmmaker Nader Davoudi's Red, White & the Green in its Panorama section.

The 60th Berlinale kicked off on Feb. 11 and will run until Feb. 21.
