Persian Miniatures at Dutch Ministry of Education

Monday, December 24, 2007

The main entrance of the new building of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science will be decorated with tile-work tableaus reflecting the style of Persian miniatures.

The artworks were created by Dutch children over the past two years at the Tropenmuseum during sessions in which they learnt about the culture of Iran.

Officials of the Dutch Education Ministry requested to be allowed to install the tableaus at their headquarters.

Each child painted a tile with Persian style artwork and affixed it to one of the tableaus, overall, five tableaus had been created by the children in this way.

The cultural exchange project between the Dutch Tropenmuseum and the Iranian Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) was an extensive and valuable project.

A total of 60 children began the project in 2004 through photography, animation films, drawings, an interactive website and contact via a webcam.

The children in the Netherlands and Iran became well acquainted with one another. They learned about the things that are important in each other’s lives.  They were able to compare the way they viewed the world and what and who inspires them. The children of the two countries found out what makes their lives different and also the things that they have in common. They received guidance from artists and teachers during the project.
