After a visit to the historical city of Meibod, UNESCO experts have proclaimed it suitable to be registered as a World Heritage site.

"The UNESCO team who visited the city a month ago, found it suitable to be registered in the World Heritage index," said Leila Zaker Ameli, head of Meibod Cultural Heritage Office.

" The material used in constructing buildings, the history of man's settlement in the region, man's adaptation to the desert environment, and the numerous subterranean canals are among the reasons the team has decided to register Meibod,” she added.

The city of Meibod is located 50 km north of Yazd province in central Iran. The city's countless historical and religious sites attract many tourists every year.
