Larijani: Suspension out of question

Saturday, October 20, 2007

Iran has reached such an advanced stage in its nuclear program that talking of enrichment suspension is pointless, a top official says.

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, dismissed US-led sanctions against Tehran over its nuclear program as of little consequence.

Larijani said, "In technical terms, we have reached such an advanced stage that no country can deprive us of what we have accomplished. Iran's current status cannot be ignored. I am surprised to hear that the suspension of uranium enrichment is still being discussed."

Iran is committed to the work plan recently agreed with the International Atomic Energy Agency and has not been using it to buy time, he added.

Iran's top nuclear negotiator noted that Tehran was on track to enter the phase of industrial scale uranium enrichment.
