Iranian Students Top Astronomy & Astrophysics Olympiad

Active ImageIranian students top the 3rd edition of the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics held in the capital city of Tehran.

Iranian contestants came first with one bronze, two silver and four gold medals. India ranked second with two gold and two silver medals.

Students and astronomers from 20 countries competed in theoretical and practical sections, held in Tehran and Semnan Provinces respectively.

The IOAA 2009 was held in Basic Astrophysics, Coordinates and Times, Solar System, Stars, Stellar Systems, Cosmology, and Instrumentation and Space Technologies categories.

Iran, Belarus, Indonesia, Poland, Bangladesh, Greece, Brazil, Lithuania, Thailand, Sri Lanka, South Korea, India, Cambodia, Slovakia, Bolivia, Serbia, Romania, Kazakhstan, China and Ukraine participated in the 10-day event.
