A senior Iranian lawmaker has lambasted the Bush administration for its efforts to play Iran and Arab states off against one another.

Chairman of the Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Americans are sticking to their old policies of selling more weapons to other countries.

He noted that the neoconservative Bush administration is trying to damage the ties between Iran and Arab states and make them fear the Islamic Republic.

Boroujerdi added "This is a new ruse by Washington to persuade them to buy weapons. The purpose of this stratagem is plundering wealth of Arab nations.

The parliamentarian underscored that under the current circumstances Iran's political system should interact more with regional countries and steer clear of sensitive issues which create division between Iran and other Middle Eastern states.
