Iranian Director in Serb Film Festival’s Greatest Section

Active ImageThe 2010 Kustendorf film festival is to dedicate its Retrospective of Greatness section to award-winning Iranian director Asghar Farhadi.

Farhadi will present his latest production About Elly, which won him the Silver Bear award of the 2008 Berlin Film Festival.

The 2009 guest of the festival's Retrospective of Greatness was independent American filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, whose Stranger than Paradise (1984), Down by Law (1986), Dead Man (1995) and Broken Flowers (2005) were screened during the event.

About Elly, which highlights the relations between Iranian men and women and presents a dramatic depiction of love, won the Silver Bear award of the 59th International Berlin Film Festival and the Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature of the 8th Tribeca Film Festival in the US.

The two-hour drama will also be distributed by Memento Films Company in France from September 9, 2009.

Asghar Farhadi began filmmaking with Dancing in the Dust in 2003. His fourth film, Fireworks Wednesday won him the Gold Hugo Award of the 2006 Chicago International Film Festival and the Best Director Award of the 13th Rabat Film Festival in Morocco.

Organized by Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica in the town of Drvengrad (also known as Kustendorf), the 2010 Kustendorf film festival will be held in early January this year.
