Majid Mehregan, a celebrated Iranian carpet designer, will use Strabo's map to design a carpet with the theme of the Persian Gulf.

With the aim of introducing the Iran's history of carpet-weaving, the Ancient Map of Strabo (1st century BCE) will be used to weave a carpet.

A limited number of three or four unique Persian Gulf carpets will be completed by November, one of which will be displayed at the upcoming International Conference on the Persian Gulf in London. Workers will commence weaving the carpet in the next few weeks.

Many meetings have been held with political and geographical researchers to choose the best course of action in weaving the Persian Gulf carpet. Since Strabo is known as 'the father of geography', Iranian experts say his map was an excellent choice for designing the carpet.

Strabo's seventeen volume work of geography, almost completely extant, is one of the most important sources of information on classical geography.
