Iran Tops the Region in 7 Scientific Fields

The number of research papers produced in Iran has increased by 50 percent during the past two years.

Iran tops the region in seven scientific fields including mathematics, mechanics, polymer, chemistry, chemical engineering, nanotechnology, and medicine.

A special ceremony held to appreciate selected participants of the 21st International Kharazmi Festival. Scientific achievements of Iran were the result of efforts made by Iranian researchers.

During recent years Iran have witnessed 38 percent growth in the number of faculty members of universities, 60 percent growth in the number of university students, 31 percent increase in the number of academic courses, 92 percent rise in the number of universities, 15 percent increase in the number of excellent students, 75 percent growth in the number of postgraduate students and 90 percent increase in the number of government ratifications related to inauguration of scientific and educational centers.

It is the first time that Iran has topped the region in seven scientific fields.

Iran ranks the 12th in the world in mathematics, 14th in mechanics, 16th in polymer, 18th in chemistry, 21st in chemical engineering, 26th in nanotechnology and 27th in medicine. Our country ranks the first in the region in those fields.

50 percent rise in the number of research papers during the past two years was indicative of a rising trend in research in the country.

Iran had many achievements in technical fields, so that, in some of those fields it ranks 10th to 11th in the world and in a few of them it even ranks the first.

At present, Iran accounts for about one percent of biotechnological exports.
