Researchers at the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) have successfully produced a 25 W CO2 laser with extensive medicinal use.

Leader of the AEOI research team Seyyed Mohammad Reza Sadr Ghayeni said that the new laser has several advantages over the original device, as it is less pricy and has after-sales services.

"Metal mirrors have substituted gold ones in the optic parts of the Iranian-made device and this is why the Iranian sample is less expensive," Sadr Ghayeni said.

The device with a proven operating lifetime of 20,000 hours is currently pending approval of Iran's health ministry to enter the market.

The 25 W CO2 laser has several medicinal uses particularly in open surgeries, ENT procedures, and dermatologic disease.
