Managing director of Iranian Rail Industries Development Company announced that, for the first time in the world, a new type of high-speed rail switches have been designed and manufactured in Iran.

Ali Akbar Asl Khademi added that Iranian rail experts have successfully designed and made high-speed rail switches to be used in Tehran subway.

He stipulated that the new switch is called “UIC 56” which has been made with a slope of ½ to be used in high-speech train rails.

Khademi stated that, at present, three countries are capable of designing and producing rail equipment including high-speed switches, adding, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is emerging as an international center for manufacture of rail industry equipment.”

The official also said that at present, domestic experts at Iranian Rail Industries are providing most equipment needed for port installations, railroads, as well as subway projects in Tehran, Tabriz, Isfahan, Shiraz, and Mashhad.

“Before the company became active, all rail equipment needed inside the country was imported. At present, apart from three items, all other equipment used by rail industries are manufactured in the country,” he said.

Khademi noted that all needed parts for the Iranian rails were imported up to 2005, but during the past three years, 70 percent of them have been designed and manufactured in Iran.

He also stated that Iran is the sole producer of rail industries in the Middle East and expressed hope that new shareholders will do their best for development of the Iranian rail industries and transfer of new technology.
