Iran Must Show off Military Power to US in Persian Gulf

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Iran must show off its military power to the US in the Persian Gulf waters.

“The Persian Gulf coast and much of the coasts of the Sea of Oman belong to this powerful Iranian nation, therefore we have to be present in this region, [stage] maneuvers and show off our power,” the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei rebuffed the US government’s demands that Iran should not hold military drills in the Persian Gulf.

“It is the Americans who should explain why they have come here from that corner of the world to mount exercises,” the Leader said.

“This is how bullying powers must be countered,” added Ayatollah Khamenei.

The Leader noted that the enemy will have to “back down” in the face of the strength of the Iranian nation.

“But when we hesitate and refrain from showing off the principles and elements of our power to the enemy or if we are scared, the enemy will grow brazen,” said Ayatollah Khamenei.

The Leader also said some governments in the Middle East are implementing the US schemes for the region without getting any quid pro quo.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the US, Zionist capitalists and some arrogant governments are the manifestation of “international system of dominance” that is seeking to sway the future generations of countries in its own favor.

In another development the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said Iran and South Korea must build relations that are impervious to Washington's spite and bias.

“The relations between Iran and South Korea must not hinge upon sanctions and must not be affected by the US influence and malice, rather the communications between the two countries must be sustainable, stable, strong and cordial’,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

“Such memoranda of understanding and contracts should be struck between the two countries that foreign factors and sanctions could not adversely affect them,” the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the Islamic Republic maintains a positive view towards Asian nations, adding that Iran and South Korea will both benefit from sustainable ties.

“We believe that there is a greater prospect for understanding, agreement and cooperation with these Asian countries including South Korea which is among the advanced Asian countries,” the Leader added.

Ayatollah Khamenei also highlighted security challenges prevailing in the Middle East region and the world, saying: “If terrorism and insecurity are not tackled realistically and properly, countering them will become more difficult in the future and no country will be immune to this danger.”

The Leader dismissed Washington’s dichotomy of terrorism into “good” and “bad” categories, saying: “The US is chanting the slogan of combating terrorism, but it does not behave sincerely in practice while terrorism in any form is bad and is dangerous to nations and security of countries because without security, favorable progress will not take place.”

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also said Iran and South Korea must make use of their great potential to expand their strategic relations in all sectors.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to draw up the framework for long-term and strategic relations between Tehran and Seoul in line with the development of investment and joint economic projects,” Rouhani said.

He added that Iran holds a strategic view to South Korea as an important country in East Asia.

The two countries must increase their exchanges to $18 billion in the first step and then to $30 billion, Rouhani said, stressing the importance of extending facilities and removing hurdles to obtain this goal.

He noted that Iran's southern ports including the port city of Jask off the Sea of Oman are suitable ground for joint venture projects.

Rouhani also said regional security and stability play a very important role in strengthening Tehran-Seoul relations.

“All countries have a political and humanitarian obligation to make efforts to maintain and promote regional and international peace and stability,” he pointed out.

The Iranian president emphasized that weapons of mass destruction pose a danger to all humans and underlined the importance of dismantling these arms across the world.

He said peace and stability must be restored to the regional countries, particularly Iraq, Yemen, Syria and Afghanistan.
