ISI Reports Big Leap in Knowledge Production in Iran

Latest statistics on knowledge production in Iran:

Director of Regional Library of Science and Technology announced that Iran’s scientific articles carried by the reference website International Scientific Institute (ISI) have reached 7,320 in 2008, adding, “The speed at which knowledge is produced in Iran is unique and unparalleled in other regional countries.”

Dr. Ja'far Mehrad added that progress of knowledge production in Iran has been unprecedented compared to the past and added that never in the past years, statistics on knowledge production in Iran matched the figures which have been released during the second half of the current (Christian) year, so that, total knowledge production in the country has stood at 9,062 cases.

He added that total cases of knowledge production in Turkey hit 14,126 papers, noting that in terms of knowledge production in regional countries, Iran only stands the second after Turkey.

Director of Regional Library of Science and Technology stated that Egypt ranks after Iran in the Middle East in terms of knowledge production by accounting for 2,586 scientific papers.

“Malaysia and Saudi Arabia stand after Egypt by producing 1,719 papers and 1,206 papers, respectively, ranking the 4th and 5th in Asia,” he said.

Mehrad expressed hope that in view of growing trend of knowledge production in Iran and efforts made by universities as well as research and technology centers Iran would account for more than 12,000 papers in ISI by the end of 2008.

He added that Iran’s 7,320 scientific papers pertain to science, social sciences and arts and humanities categories, which are the three major categories of ISI.  

Mehrad concluded by saying that engineering, medicine, as well as agriculture, veterinary and fields related to natural sciences are included in the scientific category by ISI.
