Economic sanctions on Iran are futile

Monday, November 5, 2007

Ali Akbar Velayati, the foreign policy adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said that efforts by the U.S. and its allies to impose new economic sanctions on Iran are futile.

“The futility of sanction against Iran has been numerously proven and without doubt the U.S., as before, will lose in its efforts to impose another economic sanction,” he said.

“Economic sanction instead of having a tangible negative effect on Iran will have a destructive effect on our western enemy who threaten us of sanction,” the former foreign minister noted.

Velayati called sanctions a fruitless propaganda game. “Iran from the beginning of the revolution has been under such sanctions.”
