Awards for Iranian Artists in Portugal and Italy

Active Image*Iranian artist Hassan Karimzadeh has topped the Gag Cartoon category of the 2010 edition of the World Press Cartoon in Sintra, Portugal.

Karimzadeh won the first prize of the category for his Controversy, while Brazil's Dalcio and Madagascar's Pov received the 2nd and 3rd awards respectively.

This year's panel of jury, led by French cartoonist Jean Plantureux, judged a total of 878 works published in 401 newspapers of 51 countries.

The 6th World Press Cartoon granted its Grand Prix to a caricature of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin drawn by Argentina's Gabriel Ippoliti.

The second and third awards of the caricature section went to Czech cartoonist Vaclav Teichmann for Steve Jobs and Australian David Rowe for Karzai.

In the Editorial Cartoon category, Mexico's Boligan came in first with Yes We Can, while Brazil's Jarbas and Cau Gomez collected the 2nd and the 3rd prizes respectively.

The World Press Cartoon 2010 aimed to award best works published in the areas of cartoon publishing, caricature and drawing of humor in newspapers or magazines in the year 2009.

Active Image*Two Iranian artists have received awards at the 13th edition of the Francesco Forno photography competition in the Italian capital city of Rome.

Farzin Shadmehr won the second prize of the event's Man and the Sea section and Mehdi Razavi received the Angelo Molinari Foundation special prize granted to artists under the age of 29, Mehr News Agency reported.

More than 4,000 photographs from 36 countries were submitted to the 2010 Francesco Forno, which was held on the themes of Free Time and The Man and the Sea.

Michele Ghigo, Riccardo Busi, Germano Lucci, Augusto Baracchini Caputi and Domenico Caparbi judged the competition's Man and the Sea section, while Giorgio Tani, Albano Sgarbi, Bruno Colalongo, Claudio Rossi and Alberto Placidoli selected the best works in the Free Time category.

The selected works will be displayed from April 18 to 30, 2010 in Rome and from August 10 to 20 in the city of Civitavecchia.
