President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad expressed deep sorrow over the former Prime Minister's assassination and offered the Iranian nation's condolences to her family and the Pakistani nation and government.

"The enemies have targeted the pillars of independence, integrity, and dignity in Pakistan," Ahmadinejad told a cabinet meeting Sunday.

He described the situation in Pakistan as highly sensitive and added that the future of the Islamic state depended on the reaction of the country's political parties and influential figures.

Ahmadinejad called on the Pakistani nation to help prevent the spread of conflict and fratricide through vigilance and urged Islamabad to protect the country's integrity.
