About Elly Wins Two Awards at APSA

Active ImageIranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi's Oscar-nominated About Elly has won two awards at the third annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).

Asghar Farhadi's two-hour drama shared the Grand Jury prize with Israeli Elia Suleiman's picture The Time That Remains on Thursday.

The prominent Iranian director also collected the Best Screenplay award for penning the film.

About Elly highlights the relations between Iranian men and women and presents a dramatic depiction of love. The film was awarded the Silver Bear during the 59th International Berlin Film Festival and the Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature screened at the 8th Tribeca Film Festival in the US.

A total of 37 films from 16 countries were competing in the third annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards, hosted November 26 on Australia's Gold Coast.

Achievement in cinematography: Cao Yu, City of Life and Death China

Best screenplay: Asghar Farhadi, About Elly Iran

Best documentary feature: Defamation Israel/Austria/Denmark/US, producers Knut Ogris, Karoline Leth, Sandra Itkoff, Philippa Kowarsky

Best animated feature film: Mary and Max Australia, producer Melanie Coombs

Best children's feature film: A Brand New Life South Korea/France, producers Lee Chang-dong, Laurent Lavole, Lee Joon-dong

UNESCO award: Agrarian Utopia Thailand, writer, director, producer Uruphong Raksasad.

FIAPF award for outstanding achievement in film, Isao Matsuoka (Japan)
