1st Smart Microscope Manufactured in Iran

The first video system of digital smart microscope in the Middle East has been manufactured by Iranian researchers. The new system is characterized with no need to capture card, possibility of rapid transfer of pictures from the Internet, and possibility of reverse picture transfer from computer to microscope.

Saeed Toutounchi, official in charge of the plan, has noted that the digital smart microscope uses video-optic technology to produce a high-resolution picture which makes interpretation of pictures possible for user.

He added that pictures taken by the new microscope have a resolution of 12.1 megapixels with color resolution of up to 16 million colors.

“Other optical and digital features of the microscope include high optical zoom and lens adjustment before taking the picture, printing color atlases with the highest quality, capable of being used in industrial and biological forms through automatic smart modification, online photography, a range of vision of up to 95 percent and microscopic aggrandizement without changing objective lenses,” he said.

Toutounchi also stated that the software used by the microscope is capable of balancing and editing pictures and adjusting their contrast, color, gamma, and sharpness. It is also capable of producing A2, A3, and A4 pictures at full quality, recording written information on pictures, rapid printing of high quality pictures on all printers as well as calculating length, perimeter, area and angle of pictures.

Toutounchi also noted that the smart microscope has been already in use by medical schools of Shahid Beheshti, Tehran, Urumia, Isfahan, and Zahedan universities as well as Malek Ashtar University, Persian Gulf University, in addition to Fishery Research Institute of Yazd and Bafq.

He added that necessary permits and licenses have been obtained for the microscope, which has been sent to Cuba, Austria, and France.
