“About Elly” Topps APSA Awards Nominees

Active ImageFollowing its widespread international success Iran's Oscar-nominated About Elly has topped the 2009 Asia Pacific Screen Awards nominees.

Asghar Farhadi's 2008 drama was nominated for the Best Feature Film, Achievement in Directing, Best Screenplay and Best Actress categories.

Iran's Ali Mohammad Qasemi has also been nominated for the 2009 Achievement in Cinematography award for A Light in the Fog directed by Panahbarkhoda Rezaee.

The 2009 nominees represent the extraordinary breadth of talent that exists in our region in a year when the quality of Asia-Pacific films is exceptional," said APSA chairman Des Power.

"The response indicates that the filmmakers of Asia-Pacific value our mission to acclaim their work and take it to a global audience."

Japan tops the nominee list with seven nominations followed by China with six. India, Iran, Russia and South Korea came next with five nominations each.

An international jury headed by Huang Jianxin will choose the winners to be announced on Nov. 26 in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
