Iranian illuminator Mostafa Aqamiri has been invited to hold Persian art workshops at Shanghai University, one of China's most prestigious academic centers. Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Abdolvahab's Please Do Not Disturb has been awarded at the 2010 edition of the Damascus International Film Festival.

Active ImageAccording to the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), Iran increased its academic publishing output nearly tenfold from 1996 to 2004, and has been ranked first globally in terms of output growth rate. Iran, China, India and Brazil are the only developing countries among 31 nations with 97.5% of the world's total scientific productivity. A 2010 report by Canadian research firm Science-Metrix has put Iran in the top rank globally in terms of growth in scientific productivity with a 14.4 growth index followed by South Korea with a 9.8 growth index. The report further notes that Iran's scientific capability build-up has been the fastest in the past two decades.

Active ImageIranian writer Habib Ahmadzadeh has received the third prize of the Writing Forge Short Story Competition for his Letter to the Sa'ad Family. “Banquet Under the Water” by Iranian director Babak Amini has won three awards at the FIKE 2010 -- 9th International Short Film Festival in Evora, Portugal. “Whisper with the Wind” by Kurdish Iranian director Shahram Alidi has won two prizes at the International Euroarab Film Festival Amal in Spain.

Active ImageIranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami's latest production Certified Copy has been awarded at the 2010 Valladolid Film Festival in Spain. Iranian cartoonist Shahin Hoshmand won the third prize at the X Biennial of Ecological Cartoon Sokobanja which was held in Bulgaria. Iran took first place awards at the 4th International Illumination and Miniature Festival of Algiers which ran from October 16 to 21.

Active ImageTwo feature-length and documentary Iranian productions have been awarded at the 13th edition of Religion Today Film Festival held in Italy. Iranian filmmaker Majid Barzegar has won the Best Director Award of the 2010 edition of the Didar International Film Festival in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. A short bio and a selection of paintings by the self-taught Iranian artist Mokarrameh Qanbari will appear in a book for Ph.D. students of art at Columbia University next term. Veteran Iranian artist Jamshid Moradian will create a sculpture from dried tree-trunks at the campus of the Cite Internationale Universitaire de Paris. Iranian filmmaker Vahid Vakilifar's Gesher has been awarded at the 2010 edition of Abu Dhabi International Film Festival in the United Arab Emirates.
